PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia. Sept 25, 2025 – The Home Ministry has uncovered a small but serious glitch allowing lost or deactivated MyKads to be misused for claiming SARA cash aid, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail revealed during a press conference last Tuesday. The issue, affecting roughly 100 cases out of 18 million active MyKads, stems from a sync error between the National Registration Department (JPN) and the Ministry of Finance’s (MOF) SARA aid system.

“When a MyKad is reported lost, JPN deactivates it immediately,” Saifuddin told reporters. “But a minor coordination lapse with MOF’s system let these claims slip through. We’ve identified the problem and take it seriously, despite the low numbers.”
The minister assured Malaysians that the issue will not affect the upcoming BUDI95 aid rollout on September 30, 2025, as JPN and MOF systems have now been fully aligned. “This won’t happen again, Insya-Allah,” he said, emphasizing the MADANI government’s commitment to safeguarding personal data and ensuring system integrity.
Saifuddin urged the public not to worry, stressing that the fix eliminates any room for further abuse. “We’re fully committed to protecting citizens’ data and maintaining trust in our systems,” he added. The ministry is also reviewing the affected cases to prevent future lapses.
