KEDAH, MALAYSIA Dec 15, 2025 – A total of 17 families affected by the debris flood in Kampung Iboi, Baling, Kedah, have safely received the keys to their new homes last Saturday, marking the completion of the second phase of the replacement housing project for victims of the tragedy on July 4, 2022.
Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail informed that the new homes were built in Kampung Bok Bak, each with an area of 750 square feet, equipped with three bedrooms and additional land. The houses are fully privately owned by the recipients, allowing them to expand the space if needed in the future.
The project was funded through an allocation of RM3 million from the Federal Government, approved under the concern of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, while the Kedah State Government resolved land and compensation issues.
The 2022 debris flood tragedy claimed the lives of three family members and destroyed many residents’ homes. The first phase of the project, involving 12 families, was completed and occupied in Kampung Sadek since June last year.
Saifuddin Nasution emphasised this as proof of the MADANI Government’s commitment, which prioritises the welfare of the people through comprehensive cooperation between agencies. He also congratulated the Public Works Department (JKR) for managing implementation and supervision, the District and Land Office, Baling District Council, as well as the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department (ICU JPM) for coordinating the entire project.
In related developments, the RM22.8 million Sabo Dam as a long-term flood mitigation measure has also been fully completed.
The MADANI Government affirms its commitment not to leave the people facing disasters alone, but to continue being present to support and restore the lives of disaster victims.
