NEW YORK CITY April 27, 2026 – A 15-year-old boy was shot aboard a Queens-bound A train in Ozone Park during Monday evening’s rush hour, authorities said.
The shooting occurred just after 6 p.m. as the train approached the 80th Street subway station. The unidentified teenager was struck in the torso. He was rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he remains in stable condition and is expected to survive, according to New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani.
Two to three teenagers were seen bolting from the train when it reached the station, police sources told the New York Post. NYPD officers responded quickly and took two people of interest — both teenagers — into custody. It was not immediately clear if they are connected to the fleeing group. No arrests have been officially announced, and no suspect descriptions have been released.
The NYPD is leading the investigation. The agency has asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
Mayor Mamdani addressed the incident in a statement posted to X early Tuesday:
“I have been briefed on the shooting this evening on an A train in Queens, where a 15-year-old was shot. I am relieved he is expected to survive.
This was an unacceptable incident; violence like this has no place on our subway system, and my administration is committed to doing everything in our power to make every New Yorker—especially children—safe on their daily commutes.
The NYPD is investigating the shooting, and our administration will share more information as appropriate.”
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) said A train service is “severely disrupted” in the area, with trains bypassing the 80th Street station and other nearby service “extremely limited” while the investigation continues.
This is the latest in a series of violent incidents on the city’s subway system, which has drawn repeated calls for improved safety measures under the Mamdani administration.
Life News Agency will update this story as more details emerge from the NYPD.
