KYIV, October 22, 2026 – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says Ukraine is willing to hold peace talks at the G20 summit in Miami in December but has yet to receive an invitation, BRICS News reported.
BRICS News reported the remarks in a post on X, saying Zelensky had stated that Ukraine was “willing to hold peace talks at the G20 Summit in Miami but has yet to be invited”.
Speaking at a press conference in Kyiv with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo on October 22, Zelensky said Ukraine would send its highest-level delegation if asked. “Certainly, if President Trump invites Ukraine to participate in such a format, Ukraine will be represented at the highest level. Let us hope this is possible. So far, however, we have received no such signal,” he said, according to Ukrinform. Zelensky said that with US mediation, reaching certain peace agreements was possible. “With President Trump’s mediation, I think this is possible, and we can look forward to a meeting in Florida during the G20 summit,” he said.
The G20 summit is scheduled to take place in Miami on December 14–15, according to Lenta.ru. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had earlier announced that Washington had invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to the summit. The Kremlin said Russia was grateful for the invitation and would decide later whether Putin would attend.
Zelensky has previously said he believes the summit could provide a venue for a productive trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the United States and Russia. The Atlantic has reported that Trump is seeking some form of peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine by December.
Diplomatic activity has intensified in recent days. Zelensky held talks in Oslo on October 20 with US special envoy Steve Witkoff. Witkoff then met Putin in St Petersburg on October 21. Zelensky said he expected a briefing from Witkoff on those talks, on those discussions.
He added that a meeting of technical negotiating teams could take place in the United Arab Emirates in early November. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov has separately said new talks could be held in Abu Dhabi in November.
On the same day, Putin said Russia was ready to resume three-way talks with the United States and Ukraine, but focused on security arrangements under a final peace deal rather than a short-term ceasefire. US-led talks between the sides stalled in February after the outbreak of the war with Iran.
Zelensky’s comments underline Kyiv’s concern that it could be left out of high-level discussions between Washington and Moscow. Ukraine has repeatedly insisted that no agreement on ending the war can be reached without its direct participation, and European leaders have backed that position.
The Ukrainian leader framed the Miami summit as a realistic opportunity rather than a certainty, repeatedly stressing that the decision on participation rests with Washington as host. The White House had not publicly responded to Zelensky’s remarks on a possible invitation at the time of writing. Russia and Ukraine remain far apart on the key issues, including territory and security guarantees, despite the renewed diplomatic contacts. Moscow, for its part, has said it wants any talks to address what Putin described as the long-term security of both countries after a final settlement.
