Youth Wing Chief Praises PM Anwar’s Swift Response to Flotilla Detentions, Urges Unity and Prayer

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA Oct 2, 2025 – In the early hours of dawn, Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim issued an immediate and decisive statement on the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) by Israeli forces, without waiting for bureaucratic approvals or scripted speeches, according to a statement from Angkatan Muda HARAPAN chief Woo Kah Leong.

Woo commended the premier’s no-nonsense approach, noting the absence of “bureaucratic theatrics or flowery, ambiguous language.” The official national response, he said, was released promptly and unequivocally demands the release of all detainees, including Malaysian nationals aboard the aid vessel.

“Prime Minister’s clarity reinforces Malaysia’s firm international stance,” Woo stated in his message to youth members, emphasizing the need for national solidarity amid the escalating crisis.

Addressing young Malaysians directly, Woo cautioned against actions that could exacerbate tensions. “As youth, we must never stir unrest, compound problems, play the hero, or further burden the families of the detainees,” he urged. Instead, he called for constructive support: “If you can’t help directly, at least pray for the safety of all captives, especially our fellow Malaysians.”

Woo appealed to empathy, reminding readers: “Everyone has family—imagine the anguish if it were your own loved one in custody.”

He positioned the public as a “fortress” for Anwar, enabling the prime minister to maximize his leverage in international negotiations. “Our sole enemy before us is Israel,” Woo declared, rallying focus on the core issue.

The remarks come on the heels of Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil’s directive for nationwide broadcasts of the Qunut Nazilah prayer and heightened online monitoring of conflict-related content. Anwar’s early intervention aligns with Malaysia’s vocal advocacy for Palestinian rights, as the nation joins global calls for the flotilla crew’s release.

Angkatan Muda HARAPAN represents a key demographic in Anwar’s Madani government, and Woo’s message underscores the party’s emphasis on disciplined activism during crises. Social media reactions have been largely supportive, with users echoing calls for prayer and restraint.
