Wong Chen Urges Emergency Briefing on Assault of Rafizi’s Son in Dewan Rakyat

KUALA LUMPUR, August 13, 2025 – Member of Parliament for Subang, Wong Chen, has raised an emergency motion in the Dewan Rakyat calling for a government briefing on the recent assault on the son of Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli. Invoking Standing Order 14(1)(i), Wong urged the Speaker to seek clarification from relevant ministers regarding the incident, which he described as an “evil and cowardly attack.”

In a video clip shared on his X account, Wong emphasized the urgency of the matter, stating that the attack not only threatens MPs but also their families. “This is an important matter because it threatens not only the MP but also our families,” he said during the session. He requested that a minister provide a detailed explanation to Parliament as soon as possible, ideally the following day.

Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul responded by assuring that he would contact the appropriate minister for information. “I will ask the Minister to give an explanation to me, and if necessary, we will ask the minister to come and provide clarification,” Johari stated.

The assault occurred on August 13 at a Putrajaya mall car park, where Rafizi’s 12-year-old son was reportedly dragged by two masked men and injected with a syringe. The child is currently under observation in a hospital. Rafizi has characterized the incident as a warning but affirmed his resolve to continue his duties undeterred.

Wong’s post on X expressed solidarity, noting, “Our thoughts and prayers are with his son, his wife and him.” The motion has sparked discussions among netizens, with some condemning the attack and others questioning its relevance to parliamentary proceedings.

Police investigations are ongoing, and the Home Affairs Ministry has previously issued a statement condemning the incident and pledging a thorough probe. Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation to ensure the integrity of the investigation.
