WASHINGTON, D.C. March 1, 2026 — U.S. President Donald Trump held telephone conversations on Sunday with the Prime Minister of Israel and the heads of state of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, the White House announced.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt posted the update on X:
“Today, President Trump has spoken with the leaders of Israel, Bahrain, and the UAE. The President has also been briefed on the shooting in Austin, Texas.”
The calls — understood to involve Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa — occur as U.S. and Israeli forces continue targeted military operations against Iran. The campaign follows the reported death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and has drawn retaliatory strikes from Iran on Israeli territory and U.S.-linked sites in the Gulf, including Bahrain and the UAE. At least three American service members have been killed in the exchanges.
In a separate domestic matter, President Trump was updated on a deadly mass shooting that unfolded early Sunday morning in downtown Austin, Texas.
Just before 2 a.m. CST, a gunman opened fire outside Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden on West Sixth Street, killing two people and wounding 14 others. The suspect, identified by authorities as 53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne — a naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Senegal — was shot and killed by responding Austin police officers at the scene. The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force has joined the investigation, citing “potential nexus to terrorism.”
Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Austin officials described the incident as heartbreaking and pledged a full response. No motive has been officially confirmed, but investigators continue to examine possible links to broader regional tensions.
The dual announcements from the White House underscore the Trump administration’s simultaneous management of a rapidly evolving international conflict and a serious domestic security incident.
