FLORIDA February 7, 2026 – President Donald J. Trump met with Honduran President Nasry “Tito” Asfura at his Mar-a-Lago resort on Saturday, emphasizing their shared commitment to combating drug trafficking, securing borders, and strengthening bilateral trade.
In a statement, Trump described the meeting as “very important” and referred to Asfura as a close friend. He credited his own endorsement during the 2025 Honduran presidential campaign for helping secure Asfura’s victory in the closely contested election.
“It was my Great Honor to support Tito’s Campaign. Once I gave him my strong Endorsement, he won his Election! Tito and I share many of the same America First Values,” Trump stated.
The two leaders discussed ongoing cooperation to counter dangerous cartels and drug traffickers, as well as efforts to deport illegal migrants and gang members from the United States. Trump highlighted their “close partnership on Security” and noted discussions on investment and trade opportunities between the two nations.
Trump also praised Asfura’s domestic priorities, stating that the Honduran leader “loves the people of Honduras, and is focused on their Health, Well-being, Education, and Economic Prosperity.”
Asfura, a conservative businessman and former mayor of Tegucigalpa, was inaugurated as Honduras’ president on January 27, 2026, following a razor-thin election win in November 2025 that drew international attention due to allegations of irregularities. Trump had publicly endorsed Asfura ahead of the vote, framing the election as a stand against regional leftist influences.
The meeting underscores the Trump administration’s focus on building alliances in Latin America to address migration flows, transnational crime, and economic ties. Asfura’s visit marks one of the early high-profile international engagements at Mar-a-Lago during Trump’s current term.
