KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, July 26, 2025 — The taxi industry is more than just transportation; it serves as a vital public service and the first impression of Malaysia for tourists, said Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook.
Officiating the 3rd Annual General Meeting of the Malaysia Taxi, Rental Car, Limousine, and Airport Taxi Association (GTSM), Loke emphasized the importance of close collaboration with industry players to drive meaningful reforms.

In preparation for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, plans are in place to introduce basic language and driver etiquette training for taxi drivers. Additionally, the PERKESO contribution incentive for drivers has been increased from 10% to 30%, underscoring the government’s commitment to driver safety and welfare.
“These reforms are in progress, and I will continue to work hand-in-hand with the industry to strengthen the public transport sector for the benefit of all Malaysians,” Loke said.
The minister’s remarks reflect ongoing efforts to enhance the taxi industry’s role in supporting both locals and visitors, ensuring it remains a cornerstone of Malaysia’s public transport system.
