GERIK, June 9, 2025 – A devastating accident early this morning along the East-West Highway (JRTB) near Tasik Banding, Gerik-Jeli, claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students. The tragedy occurred when a bus carrying the students collided with an MPV, leaving several others injured.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, praying for strength and resilience in facing this immense loss.
“May Allah SWT forgive the shortcomings of those who perished and place their souls among the faithful. Al-Fatihah,” he said in a statement.
The minister also noted that many of the injured are receiving medical treatment and extended his prayers for their swift recovery.
“I pray for the victims and their families to remain steadfast through this trial,” he added.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, and further details are expected to follow.
