TAPAH, 14 April 2025 – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has directed telecommunications service providers, including CelcomDigi, Maxis, Telekom Malaysia, U Mobile, and YTL, to immediately improve the quality of Internet and telecommunications coverage in 27 locations within the Ayer Kuning State Constituency (DUN). This directive follows criticism from Communications Minister, YB Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, regarding unsatisfactory coverage in the area.

To ensure seamless services ahead of the by-election (PRK), MCMC has identified key locations, including the Nomination Centre at Dewan Merdeka Tapah, 21 polling centres, the Media Centre at the Batang Padang District Information Office (PPD), as well as the Ayer Kuning and PPR Sri Bidor National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI).

As of yesterday evening, all service providers have submitted action plans for improvements to MCMC. Planned measures include optimising existing transmitter stations, installing temporary transmitters, and sharing infrastructure among telecom companies.

To engage with the community, MCMC has set up a Complaints Counter at PPD Batang Padang from 12 to 26 April 2025, operating daily from 9.00 AM to 9.00 PM. The counter will handle complaints related to telecommunications, postal services, and other issues under MCMC’s jurisdiction.

MCMC will monitor coverage performance daily and ensure complaints are promptly addressed by service providers. Any delays or non-compliance with this directive may result in enforcement actions under the law.
