The Movement for an Informed Society Malaysia (WADAH) expresses its deep concern over the latest development of the Sumud Flotilla Mission, which has now entered the red zone, with several participants – including 12 Malaysian volunteers – reportedly detained.
WADAH affirms the following positions:
1. Condemnation of Interception and Detention – WADAH strongly condemns Israel’s unlawful interception of the flotilla and the detention of volunteers. We demand the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees, including Malaysian citizens, and insist on the full protection of their safety and rights as participants in an international humanitarian mission.
2. Humanitarian and Peace Mission – The flotilla is a global mission of peace, carrying a message of solidarity and humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza who remain under siege. It poses no military threat whatsoever.
3. Blocking Means Enabling Genocide – Any Israeli action to obstruct the flotilla is tantamount to enabling the continuation of genocide against the Palestinian people. Preventing the delivery of food, medicine, and moral support is a crime against humanity that cannot be tolerated.
4. International Waters Are Free – This mission sails through free international waters. Any attempt at blockade or attack by Israel constitutes a violation of international law, maritime sovereignty, and fundamental human rights.
5. Courage of the People in the Sumud Mission – Those on board the flotilla are courageous individuals who have undertaken grave risks to break the inhumane siege imposed by the Zionist regime. Their action symbolizes the spirit of sumud (steadfastness) embraced by people of conscience around the world in resisting tyranny and upholding justice.
Appeal to the International Community
WADAH calls upon the United Nations, the OIC, the Arab League, ASEAN, the European Union, and all humanitarian nations to:
1. Guarantee the safety of the flotilla from any Israeli aggression. 2. End the inhumane blockade of Gaza.
3. Recognize the flotilla as a legitimate humanitarian effort under international law.
4. Urge the respective governments of volunteers to lodge formal protests against the detentions and to immediately mobilize diplomatic interventions.
Malaysia’s Commitment and WADAH’s Position
WADAH fully supports the firm stance of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, who continues to champion the Palestinian cause on the world stage. We also urge Malaysians to remain steadfast in solidarity with Palestine through prayers, moral support, and humanitarian mobilization.
WADAH stresses that the struggle of the flotilla is not merely about delivering aid, but about breaking the walls of oppression, defending the rights of the Palestinian people, and upholding the dignity of humanity.
“To block the flotilla is to legitimize genocide. To let the flotilla sail is to open the path to peace.”
