KUWAIT CITY, KUWAIT March 2, 2026 – Thick plumes of smoke were seen rising from the vicinity of the United States Embassy in Kuwait City on Monday morning, according to a Reuters witness cited by Al Jazeera Breaking News.
Firefighters and ambulances were spotted rushing to the area as emergency services responded, the witness reported. The development comes amid multiple rounds of air raid sirens that have blared across Kuwait in recent hours.
Kuwait’s air defences have been actively intercepting Iranian drones and missiles as part of Tehran’s retaliation following US and Israeli strikes on Iran that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and up to 40 senior Iranian officials.
Earlier on Monday, falling debris from intercepted projectiles injured two workers at Kuwait’s Mina Al Ahmadi oil refinery. Kuwaiti authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the cause of the smoke near the embassy or any potential damage or casualties.
Unverified social media reports have circulated claims of a direct strike or a downed fighter jet in Kuwaiti airspace, but these remain unconfirmed by officials.
The incident is the latest in a series of reported Iranian attacks on US-linked targets across the Gulf, with similar incidents of smoke, explosions and sirens reported in Bahrain, Qatar and the UAE.
The US Embassy in Kuwait had previously issued security alerts advising personnel and American citizens to shelter in place and avoid non-essential travel.
