KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA February 8, 2026 – February 2026 – Minister of Communications, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today officiated the Safer Internet Day (SID) 2026 celebration at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur, organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
The annual event serves as a key platform to unite government, industry, community, and families in building a more resilient and informed digital society. With a special focus on protecting children, adolescents, and the institution of the family, SID 2026 emphasizes safe, ethical, and responsible Internet use.
Throughout the day, various educational and preventive activities were held by government agencies in collaboration with strategic partners from the public, private, and international sectors. Highlights included practical demonstrations on parental controls, digital account protection, and ways to avoid online scams. Interactive exhibition booths, digital education sessions, e-sports competitions, cybersecurity-themed games, and entertainment performances successfully attracted participation across generations.
At the same event, the Safe Internet Campaign 2026 was officially launched as a continuation of the previous year’s initiative. This year, MCMC targets one million Malaysians to receive training on online safety knowledge and skills.
The SID 2026 celebration also marks the culmination of ongoing efforts to update legislation and regulation, including the enforcement of the Online Safety Act 2025 (ONSA) effective from 1 January 2026, as well as the implementation of age restrictions for social media account registration for individuals under 16 through a regulatory sandbox approach.
This integrated approach—covering law enforcement, platform compliance, user education, and public awareness—demonstrates the government’s sustained commitment to managing the digital ecosystem holistically.
Also present were Secretary-General of the Ministry of Communications, Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah; MCMC Chairman, Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din; Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Seri TPr Fadlun Mak Ujud; strategic partners; and industry players.
