RELA Celebrates 53rd Anniversary with Expanded Role in National Security

KULIM, KEDAH, Malaysia July 27, 2025 — Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail today joined the Malaysia Volunteer Corps Department (RELA) in commemorating its 53rd anniversary at Dataran Kulim, Kedah, lauding the corps as a symbol of Malaysians’ selfless volunteerism.

Speaking at the event, Saifuddin emphasized that RELA is more than an enforcement agency—it embodies the spirit of Malaysians who contribute tirelessly regardless of time or circumstance. “RELA represents the heart of volunteerism in Malaysia,” he said.

The minister highlighted RELA’s evolving role, noting its increased involvement in border control and joint operations with other enforcement agencies. “This demonstrates RELA’s growth into a force capable of shouldering greater responsibilities in safeguarding national security,” he added.

Saifuddin also announced plans to address RELA’s welfare, including allowances and facilities, by bringing the matter to the Cabinet once the nation’s economy continues to recover and grow. “InsyaAllah, we will ensure RELA’s contributions are duly recognized,” he said.

Congratulating RELA’s members, Saifuddin expressed hope that the corps would continue to excel as a respected and trusted volunteer force in Malaysia.
