DOHA, QATAR March 1, 2026 – The State of Qatar has issued a firm condemnation of Iranian attacks that targeted the commercial port of Duqm in the Sultanate of Oman and an oil tanker off its coast, describing the strikes as a “violation of sovereignty,” an “unacceptable escalation,” and a “cowardly” act against a key regional mediator.
In an official statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (@MofaQatar_EN) this morning, Qatar expressed full solidarity with Oman and pledged support for all measures taken by the Sultanate to protect its sovereignty, security, and stability.
“Qatar considers these attacks a violation of the Sultanate’s sovereignty, an unacceptable escalation, and a cowardly targeting of a country playing an active mediating role between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the international community to defuse the crisis and promote constructive dialogue to resolve outstanding issues,” the statement read.
The condemnation follows reports of two drone strikes on Duqm port earlier today, which injured one expatriate worker when one drone hit a mobile workers’ housing unit. Debris from the second drone fell near fuel storage tanks but caused no additional casualties or major damage, according to Omani state media.
Separately, a Palau-flagged oil tanker (identified as the *Skylight*) was struck off Oman’s Musandam peninsula near Khasab Port, injuring four crew members from a 20-person crew comprising Indian and Iranian nationals. The crew was safely evacuated.
These incidents mark the first direct strikes on Omani soil in the current wave of Iranian retaliatory attacks across the Gulf, following joint U.S.-Israeli military operations against Iran that began on February 28, 2026. Oman had previously been spared and has long served as a neutral mediator in regional disputes, including recent indirect talks between Iran and Western powers.
Qatar’s statement underscores growing concern among Gulf states over the rapid escalation, which has already seen blasts reported over Dubai and Doha for a second consecutive day.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed Qatar’s unwavering support for Oman, a fellow GCC member and “sisterly” nation, as the region grapples with heightened tensions.
