DOHA, QATAR March 1, 2026 – The Ministry of Interior of the State of Qatar has announced an immediate and complete ban on the use, operation, or launching of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) of all types, sizes, and technologies across the entire country, effective until further notice.
In an official press release posted on X (formerly Twitter) on 1 March 2026, the Ministry stated: “In light of the current situation, the Ministry of Interior announces a ban on the use, operation, or launch of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) of all types, sizes, and technologies across all areas of the State, for any purpose, until further notice.”
The prohibition applies to all individuals and entities, including:
– Citizens, residents, and visitors
– Government and semi-government bodies
– Companies, institutions, and others
The Ministry warned that “any use, attempted operation or facilitation of such aircraft constitutes a clear violation and will result in legal accountability and the necessary measures in accordance with applicable legislation.”
The statement also stressed the importance of public safety, urging everyone to “remain indoors and limit movement to cases of absolute necessity, while strictly adhering to official instructions issued by the competent authorities.”
The drone ban comes as Qatar maintains heightened security measures following reports of Iranian missile and drone barrages targeting U.S. military assets in the Gulf, including Al Udeid Air Base. Qatari defence systems intercepted the majority of incoming threats, though explosions and falling debris were reported in parts of Doha. Qatari airspace remains closed, and international flights have been suspended.
The U.S. Embassy in Qatar has issued a shelter-in-place advisory for American citizens, citing ongoing risks from potential further retaliation.
Authorities have not specified an end date for the restrictions, and residents are advised to monitor official channels — including the Ministry of Interior’s accounts — for updates.
