SELANGOR, MALAYSIA Sept 30, 2025 – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, Dato’ Sri Fadillah Yusof, today officiated the opening of the Pulau Indah Power Plant (PIPP), a 1,200-megawatt facility developed by Pulau Indah Power Plant Sdn. Bhd. in collaboration with its major shareholder, Worldwide Holdings Berhad, and the Selangor State Government.

The state-of-the-art natural gas-based plant, now fully operational, supplies over 40 percent of the electricity demand in the Klang Valley. Equipped with modern combined cycle gas turbine technology, PIPP delivers reliable, efficient, and cleaner energy to the national grid.
Fadillah hailed the project as a testament to the successful partnership between the Federal Government, the Selangor State Government, and the private sector in driving strategic national development. He welcomed the debut investment by Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) in a Malaysian power plant, marking a significant milestone.
“Energy is the lifeline of national progress. With PIPP’s operation, we not only enhance energy capacity but also strengthen energy security, supporting sustainable economic growth and investor confidence,” said the minister.
Aligned with the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), PIPP forms part of the early phase of Malaysia’s energy transition, reducing coal reliance, improving gas efficiency, and laying the foundation for cleaner energy sources like solar, hydro, and hydrogen. The NETR is projected to create over 23,000 new jobs in sectors such as solar, hydrogen, energy efficiency, and green technology.
Fadillah emphasized that energy transition is a new social contract, ensuring fair, environmentally friendly, and sustainable energy benefits. He described PIPP as more than just an electricity generator, highlighting its role in creating economic opportunities, protecting the environment, and building a competitive low-carbon economy.
The minister congratulated the Selangor State Government, Worldwide Holdings Berhad, and KEPCO for their vision and commitment, citing PIPP as a model of effective state-federal and public-private collaboration. He added that the plant not only powers homes but also ignites new hope for a climate-friendly and economically resilient Malaysia.
