PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA January 15, 2026 – In a significant step towards bolstering Malaysia’s automotive sector, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today received the handover of the AFAZ Kencana Sport, dubbed the nation’s latest national motorcycle. The event underscores the government’s commitment to fostering local innovation through strategic partnerships with international technology providers.
The AFAZ Kencana Sport is the fruit of a collaborative effort between domestic industries and global partners, aligned with the Automotive Manufacturing 2 (AM-2) policy. This initiative is expected to create new job opportunities, enhance local engineering expertise, and stimulate high-value supply chains within the country.
In his statement on X, Prime Minister Anwar expressed optimism about the project: “I believe this initiative symbolizes confidence in the abilities of our local talent and the government’s ongoing efforts to build a stronger, more competitive, and sustainable economy.” He further emphasized that the MADANI Government will continue to propel Malaysia forward in developing a resilient motorcycle industry, rooted in domestic capabilities, supported by global cooperation, and driven by national aspirations.
The AFAZ brand, established through a partnership between KMSB Motors and Suzuki Motor Corporation Japan, positions Malaysia as a contender in the global motorcycle market. The Kencana Sport model, a 115cc underbone motorcycle, is priced at RM5,799 and features modern design elements tailored for both local and international riders.
This development follows the brand’s initial launch, marking a milestone in Malaysia’s push for self-reliance in manufacturing. Industry experts anticipate that such collaborations will not only boost employment but also elevate Malaysia’s standing in the regional automotive landscape.
The ceremony, held at the Prime Minister’s Department, was attended by key officials and industry leaders, highlighting the government’s MADANI agenda to invigorate the economy through innovation and sustainability.
