PUTRAJAYA January 15, 2026 – Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim kicked off the year’s first Majlis Ilmu MADANI at the Seri Perdana Complex, welcoming renowned American Islamic scholar Sheikh Dr. Tahir Wyatt as the special guest speaker. The event, held on the evening of January 15, aimed to foster intellectual discourse among the youth and promote the values of Malaysia MADANI.
In his address, Anwar emphasized the need for reforms under the MADANI framework to go beyond routine approaches, urging a deeper commitment to Islamic principles in decision-making and daily life. He highlighted that the progress of the Muslim ummah must be rooted in its own identity and values, rather than blindly adopting external models. Anwar also shared personal insights from Wyatt’s lecture, noting that actions guided by religious wisdom lead to greater meaning and resilience in facing challenges.
Sheikh Dr. Tahir Wyatt, Executive Director of the United Muslim Masjid in Philadelphia, delivered a syarahan (lecture) centered on the essence of Islam and its application to contemporary issues, aligning with the MADANI pillars of sustainability, compassion, respect, innovation, prosperity, and trust. The session, which was live-streamed, drew attendees including young participants, and Anwar encouraged them to seize such opportunities for constructive dialogues that build strong mindsets and future leaders.
