PUTRAJAYA January 26, 2026 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today graced the celebration marking the 120th anniversary of the Jabatan Audit Negara (National Audit Department) at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).
In a statement shared on his official X account, Anwar highlighted the significant milestone in the department’s history, describing it as a meaningful moment that reflects the institution’s long journey in strengthening the nation’s public management and governance systems.
“Auditing ensures the entire management system becomes more transparent, accountable, and effective. This tradition aligns with the public trust that demands accountability in managing the interests of the people,” he wrote.
Anwar commended the department’s ongoing digitalisation efforts and continuous improvements, noting that these initiatives have boosted efficiency and public confidence in the institution. He described the National Audit Department as a vital safeguard against leakage, misconduct, and abuse of power.
Emphasising a people-centric approach, the Prime Minister stressed that audits should be viewed as supportive rather than punitive. “Audits need to be felt as something helpful, not oppressive. They must be closer to the people, easily understood, and build trust,” he said.
He added that when citizens recognise audits as a mechanism to protect their rights and ensure public funds are managed with integrity, fear would transform into confidence, gradually narrowing the gap between policy and reality.
“With the support of all parties, a dynamic and integrity-based auditing system will not only streamline administration but ensure the country progresses in a more just, transparent, and dignified manner, Insya-Allah,” Anwar concluded.
The event, held under the Prime Minister’s Department, featured prominent displays celebrating the department’s 120 years of service since 1906.
