WASHINGTON, D.C. February 24, 2026 – In a heartfelt display of national pride, President Donald J. Trump hosted the victorious United States Men’s Olympic Hockey Team in the Oval Office on Tuesday afternoon, celebrating their historic gold medal win at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino captured the special moment and shared it on X, posting:
“HAPPENING NOW IN THE OVAL OFFICE!!! @USAHockey 🥇”
The accompanying photograph shows President Trump, standing at the Resolute Desk with his back to the camera, addressing the beaming team. The players, dressed in their official black “USA” Olympic jerseys and proudly wearing gold medals around their necks, lined up along the curved wall adorned with portraits of past presidents.
The U.S. squad claimed gold on Sunday, February 22, defeating arch-rival Canada 2-1 in overtime at the Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena. New Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes scored the game-winning goal just 1:41 into the extra period, while goaltender Connor Hellebuyck delivered a stellar performance. It marked the first Olympic men’s hockey gold for the United States since the legendary “Miracle on Ice” victory in 1980.
The team also paid emotional tribute to their late teammate, former NHL star Johnny Gaudreau, by honoring his memory during the gold medal ceremony in Italy.
Following a celebratory stop in Miami, the players flew to Washington, D.C., and were personally invited by President Trump to attend his State of the Union address later Tuesday evening at the U.S. Capitol, where they are expected to receive a standing ovation.
“These young men played for America and made us all proud,” a White House official said. “This is what unity and excellence look like.”
The visit highlights the unifying power of sports and comes just days after both the U.S. men’s and women’s hockey teams brought home Olympic gold — with the women also defeating Canada in their final.
The men’s team is scheduled to receive further honors at the White House in the coming weeks.
