Police Deny Viral Claim of Arresting Chinese Woman in Perak National Day Stage Incident

IPOH, Malaysia, Sept 1 2025 – The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have refuted a viral Facebook post claiming the arrest of a Chinese woman following an incident where a woman climbed onto the main stage during Perak’s state-level National Day celebrations.

In a media statement issued late on August 31, Perak Police Contingent confirmed that they had instead arrested a 41-year-old local Malay woman in connection with the event. A urine screening test conducted on the suspect returned negative results.

The statement, released by the Criminal Investigation Department director CP Datuk M. Kumar A/L S. Muthuvelu, addressed a specific Facebook video link (https://www.facebook.com/share/v/16jEs8XgiY/?mibextid=wwXIfr) that had spread misinformation about the arrest.

Investigations into the suspect are being conducted under two sections of the Penal Code:

  • Section 325, which covers voluntarily causing grievous hurt, punishable by up to seven years’ imprisonment and a possible fine.
  • Section 511, which pertains to attempting to commit an offence punishable under the code, carrying the same penalties as the offence itself.

Regarding the spread of false information, police are classifying the matter under:

  • Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, for statements conducive to public mischief with intent to cause fear or alarm to the public, punishable by up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
  • Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, for improper use of network facilities or services, carrying a fine of up to RM500,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both.

PDRM warned that strict action without compromise would be taken against any parties deliberately making or disseminating false statements that cause public alarm and disrupt societal harmony in Malaysia.

The incident occurred during the National Day event in Perak, though specific details on the woman’s actions or motivations were not elaborated in the statement.

This clarification comes amid growing concerns over misinformation on social media, with authorities urging the public to verify information before sharing.
