MALACCA, MALAYSIA December 31, 2025 – Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin has rejected calls from certain quarters for her to resign as Chairman of Perikatan Nasional (PN) Melaka and Chief of PN Women’s Wing at the national level, following the announcement by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin that he is stepping down as PN Chairman effective 1 January 2026.
In a media statement issued today, Mas Ermieyati emphasised that her decision to remain in both positions is based on responsibility towards organisational stability and the interests of PN’s struggle at the state level, and not driven by personal interests or a desire to cling to power.
She explained that relations among the PN Melaka leadership, particularly with the state PAS Commissioner Tuan Guru Hj. Zulkifli Ismail and other component parties, remain harmonious and built on mutual trust — before, during, and after the issue that arose in Perlis. There is no internal conflict that warrants her hasty resignation.
“PN Melaka is currently in a critical preparation phase ahead of the State Election expected to be held in the next 4 to 6 months. Continuity and close cooperation in leadership are vital to ensure that groundwork, machinery setup, and strategies proceed in an organised and effective manner,” said Mas Ermieyati.
She also refuted claims that appointments to PN state positions, including the chairmanship, automatically lapse following the resignation of the national chairman, stressing that all appointments in Perikatan Nasional — at both central and state levels — are made through collective decisions of the PN Supreme Council via meetings, even though nominations are proposed by component parties based on suitability and local context.
Mas Ermieyati expressed agreement with the Deputy Chairmen of PN Kelantan and Terengganu, who earlier stated that Bersatu-PAS relations in their respective states remain good and harmonious, unaffected by recent issues. She noted that the situation in Melaka is similarly harmonious.
She questioned why only the PN Melaka chairmanship has become the focus of criticism and accusations, while chairmanships in other states — including PN-governed states like Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah, which are held by PAS, with Bersatu state liaison chairmen serving as deputy chairmen — have not been similarly questioned.
In this regard, she advised all parties to stop open polemics on social media involving Bersatu-PAS relations, particularly concerning the Perlis Menteri Besar changeover issue.
“Such polemics bring no benefit to the party or coalition; they only create confusion and negative perceptions among the public. I believe the people are watching this seemingly endless open bickering between PN’s two main parties, which will erode their respect and hope in PN as an alternative to the current Madani government that has already disappointed them,” she added.
“Do we not see that this internal PN polemic has damaged public hope in us?”
She expressed full confidence that all major decisions, including the appointment of a new chairman, leadership direction, and restructuring at all levels, should be left to the wisdom of the upcoming PN Supreme Council meeting.
Mas Ermieyati stated that she is fully prepared to relinquish both positions — PN Melaka Chairman and PN National Women’s Chief — if that is a mature collective decision based on the interests of the party and coalition, rather than one driven by temporary emotional pressure or sentiment.
The Bersatu-PAS relationship, forged since Bersatu’s establishment nearly five years ago, is one of siblings in the same struggle. Like any relationship, it has its ups and downs and differences of opinion. However, she believes that with the wisdom of new leadership and sincerity from all parties, any disagreements can be resolved for a stronger Perikatan Nasional future trusted by the people.
This statement comes amid a wave of resignations by PN leaders from Bersatu in several states following Muhyiddin’s announcement, while states such as Melaka, Sabah, and the Federal Territories have yet to follow suit as of now.
