PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA January 8, 2026 – Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (PMKS) associations have expressed profound appreciation to the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP), Steven Sim Chee Keong, for his concern and proactive actions in championing the interests and sustainability of PMKS as well as industry players.
The first industry engagement session since Steven Sim’s appointment as Minister took place on 7 January 2026. Led by Yayasan Kebajikan Insan (YAKIN), the session involved leaders from seven major PMKS and industry associations: Federation of Malaysian Business Association (FMBA), Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM), Persatuan Pengurusan Kompleks (PPK), Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA), Malaysia Interior Industry Partner (MIIP), SME Association of Malaysia, Business Networking Club (BNC), and Malaysian Book Sellers Association.
The associations welcomed Steven Sim’s initiative in providing an open and inclusive dialogue platform, as well as his proactive steps in elevating PMKS issues and challenges to the highest levels through a meeting with the Prime Minister on 2 January 2026 and an audience with His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on 7 January 2026.
The industry also praised KUSKOP’s open-door policy under Steven Sim’s leadership and the strategic cooperation between the MADANI Government and the private sector to effectively implement the introduced ABCD strategy.
The associations further welcomed the Prime Minister’s announcement of an RM80 billion PMKS support initiative, viewing it as a clear manifestation of the MADANI Government’s commitment to empowering and strengthening the local business ecosystem. They hope the initiative will address financing access issues, streamline bureaucracy, and create a more conducive and resilient economic ecosystem.
Overall, the industry is satisfied with the outcomes of the meeting and committed to continuing close cooperation with the Minister and KUSKOP to enhance the competitiveness of PMKS across the national economic value chain.
