PM Anwar: MADANI Is Commitment to People, Not Just a Slogan

MALAYSIA, Lumut, June 15, 2025 – Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim today reaffirmed the MADANI government’s commitment to uplifting the lives of Malaysians, emphasizing that the slogan is not mere rhetoric but a resolute pledge to serve the masses.

Speaking at the MADANI Rakyat event in Lumut, he outlined tangible steps to address grassroots issues while advancing Malaysia’s global ambitions.

Manjung Hospital is set for expansion, with 863 school toilets already refurbished and 200 more under repair. Brushing off the opposition’s jibe of “Toilet Prime Minister,”.

Anwar stressed his priority is ensuring students’ comfort. “We can’t just focus on mega-projects like the Kerian Integrated Green Industrial Park (KIGIP) or Lumut Maritime Industrial City (LuMIC) while neglecting basic needs,” he said.

Governance, he added, goes beyond chasing GDP figures. “It’s about upholding humane values with empathy and care,” Anwar noted, advocating a bottom-up approach—from fixing school toilets to reshaping economic policies. Yet, the ultimate goal remains clear: to enable Malaysia “to learn to fly again.”

The MADANI Rakyat event, he said, is more than an exhibition—it’s a platform for open dialogue between citizens, policymakers, and implementers. Anwar recounted hearing firsthand complaints and suggestions from the ground, highlighting the value of such engagements.

“When we go to the field, we listen, and we fix,” he said.

Addressing connectivity concerns raised about Universiti Perguruan Sultan Idris (UPSI) in Tanjung Malim, Anwar confirmed that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has resolved the issue, underscoring internet access as a cornerstone of modern education.

On the newly expanded Sales and Service Tax (SST), Anwar clarified the rationale behind taxing imported goods like avocados.

“We’re not taxing local bananas in Lumut. Those who can afford luxury imports should share the burden,” he said.

The revenue, he explained, funds critical sectors like healthcare, education, defense, civil servants’ salaries, and the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) aid for the needy.

Reiterating his zero-tolerance stance on corruption, Anwar vowed that tax revenues would be channeled into development—schools, hospitals, roads, defense, and welfare.

“There’s no compromise on graft, no mercy for corruptors,” he declared.

Anwar also highlighted Malaysia’s rising global profile, from artificial intelligence to automotive industries, and from fishermen to scientists. “We don’t want to be spectators in a fast-moving world. We aim to be key players,” he said.

Calling for intensified efforts, Anwar urged Perak to lead Malaysia’s resurgence with dignity, discipline, and a clear direction.
