PM Anwar Ibrahim calls for unity and good governance for Sabah’s future at Merotai event

MEROTAI, SABAH, MALAYSIA November 26.  2025 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last night made a working visit to the Merotai state constituency, officiating the “Fiesta Demi Merotai – Harapan Urang Sabah” at the Merotai Open Hall, which was packed with thousands of Pakatan Harapan supporters and local residents.

In his speech, Anwar stressed that Malaysia’s future, particularly Sabah’s, cannot be built on politics of hatred and division. Instead, it must be founded on three core pillars:

– Unity among all races and ethnic groups
– Uncompromising integrity
– Clean, transparent, and effective governance

“The peace and harmony we enjoy in Sabah is our greatest asset. If we safeguard this unity and govern the state fairly, Sabah can leap even further forward,” the Prime Minister declared to thunderous applause.

Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Merotai state seat, Datuk Ruji Ubi, expressed deep gratitude and emotion over Anwar’s willingness to visit this interior area.

“The presence of the Right Honourable Prime Minister means the world to the people of Merotai. His message has become a tremendous boost for us to keep fighting for development that is fair and inclusive of all communities,” Datuk Ruji said in a social media statement immediately after the event.

The former Secretary-General of the Ministry of Home Affairs also extended heartfelt thanks to Anwar for the trust placed in him by selecting him as the PH candidate, and to the organising team and all the residents who turned up in full force.

Anwar’s personal visit to Merotai is widely seen as a powerful signal of top-level Unity Government backing for Datuk Ruji Ubi and Pakatan Harapan’s mission to recapture seats along Sabah’s east coast in the upcoming state election.
