PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA April 2, 2026 – Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim has warned that the global energy crisis is intensifying and recovery will take a long time, declaring that “it is no longer business as usual” for Malaysia.
In a special briefing held yesterday, the Prime Minister stressed the need for collective wisdom, discipline and shared responsibility to navigate the challenging situation.
“Malaysia is still holding strong, but the reality now is different from before,” he said in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) this afternoon.
To cushion the impact on the rakyat, the government has rolled out the Inisiatif Sokongan Rakyat (People’s Support Initiative) with total spending reaching RM4 billion. This includes maintaining the price of RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre and continuing diesel subsidies for eligible groups.
Additional measures have also been activated to secure energy supply and manage fuel consumption. Among the key steps is the implementation of Bekerja dari Rumah (BDR) or Work-From-Home for the public sector, starting 15 April 2026.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that Malaysians can overcome the crisis together.
“Insya-Allah, we are able to weather this challenge as one,” he added.
The announcement was accompanied by official graphics highlighting the government’s proactive steps and the current energy situation.
The move comes as part of broader efforts coordinated with relevant ministries to ensure national energy security amid the prolonged global turbulence.
