KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, July 8, 2025 – Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail met with a delegation from the Multilingual Writers Association (PEN Malaysia), led by its president, Mahi Ramakrishnan, yesterday afternoon. The meeting addressed the recent seizure of Fixi publications by the Home Ministry’s enforcement authorities for content review.

During the constructive dialogue, representatives of writers, publishers, and book industry stakeholders shared various perspectives and proposals. A key suggestion was to streamline communication between the Home Ministry and publishers to prevent confusion, misunderstandings, and negative perceptions regarding enforcement actions.
Welcoming the input, Saifuddin expressed his commitment to open dialogue and proposed regular engagement sessions with the ministry’s Enforcement and Control Division (PK KDN).
“In fostering a thinking society, the pen should not be silenced. It must be guided by wisdom, not shackled by fear,” he said, reaffirming his support for a balanced approach to creative freedom and regulation.
