PDRM Arrests 36 Bangladeshi Militants in Nationwide Crackdown

PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia, June 27, 2025 – The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has detained 36 Bangladeshi nationals linked to a radical militant movement promoting extremist ideologies and violence, announced Home Minister Senator Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail today.

The arrests, conducted in a meticulously planned operation starting April 24, 2025, unfolded in three phases across Selangor and Johor. Five of the suspects have been charged under Chapter VIA of the Penal Code in the Shah Alam and Johor Bahru Sessions Courts. Fifteen others face deportation orders, while 16 remain under investigation for their roles in the militant network.

Intelligence gathered by PDRM’s Special Branch revealed the group was importing Islamic State (IS)-inspired extremist ideologies into Malaysia. They established recruitment cells within their community to indoctrinate followers, raise funds for violent activities, and plot against their home country’s government.

“Malaysia will not be a safe haven or breeding ground for foreign extremist movements,” Saifuddin Nasution declared. “This operation underscores the Madani Government’s zero-tolerance stance against threats to national security and highlights PDRM’s professionalism in safeguarding sovereignty, harmony, and public order.”

The Home Ministry, he added, will continue to bolster intelligence capabilities, intensify enforcement, and collaborate with domestic and international security agencies to keep Malaysia safe and stable. “Any attempt to use Malaysia as a militant base or transit hub will be met with swift and decisive action,” he warned.
