BANGI, Malaysia Oct 21, 2025 – National Vice Chairman of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Bangi Member of Parliament, Syahredzan Johan, today strongly condemned the statement by a Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) leader that links non-Malay and non-Muslim groups in Malaysia with the “tyranny” suffered by the Palestinian people due to Jewish immigrants.
In an official statement issued today, Syahredzan claims that the statement, posted on Facebook by Datuk Dr. Ahmad Marzuk Shaary – Member of Parliament for Pengkalan Chepa and a key PAS leader – constitutes an “extreme and unacceptable” action that could divide the multi-ethnic society in this country.
According to Syahredzan, Datuk Ahmad Marzuk’s Facebook status titled “LEARN FROM PALESTINE’S HISTORY: DON’T REPEAT THE SAME MISTAKES” urges Muslims to learn from Palestinian history, where Palestinians are said to have accepted Jewish immigrants on humanitarian grounds, but ultimately became victims of tyranny and were expelled from their homeland.
“In that status, Datuk Ahmad Marzuk claims that signs of the same thing that happened in Palestine can now be seen in our own homeland,” wrote Syahredzan in his statement. He quotes Datuk Ahmad Marzuk’s claim: “The economic sector is now increasingly controlled by non-Muslims and non-Bumiputera. Tall buildings, major companies, and strategic lands have long been out of the grasp of Muslims. Now their steps have reached Putrajaya, enacting laws, drafting acts, and slowly reshaping the political power map of this country.”
Syahredzan emphasizes that the statement clearly refers to non-Muslim and non-Bumiputera groups as parties allegedly controlling the economy, land, legislation, and now the country’s politics, similar to the Palestinian historical narrative. “What is conveyed by this PAS leader is clear; Malays and Muslims in their own homeland will suffer the same fate as the Palestinian people if we are negligent. The difference here is that the perpetrators are non-Malay and non-Muslim groups,” he added.
He stresses the unity of Malaysians in opposing Israel’s tyranny and the Zionist regime’s actions against Palestine, but strongly rejects efforts to link non-Malay and non-Muslim Malaysians with Israel’s actions. “We all unite in opposing Israel’s tyranny and the Zionist regime’s inhumane actions that violate human boundaries. There is no dispute about this. However, this PAS Member of Parliament’s action in linking non-Muslim and non-Malay Malaysians with what Israel did to Palestine is extreme and unacceptable.”
Syahredzan also reminds that non-Malay and non-Muslim groups have joined in building this nation together with Malays and Muslims. “PAS is once again reminded that non-Malays and non-Muslims have joined hands with Malays and Muslims to build our beloved nation. Therefore, Perikatan Nasional leaders like Datuk Ahmad Marzuk should not and have no right to question their sincerity for narrow politics.”
This statement was issued just one day after the Deepavali celebration, which was welcomed with a spirit of togetherness and harmony throughout the country. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also reminded the people in his speech yesterday to appreciate and defend diversity in Malaysia. However, Syahredzan claims that PAS leaders like Datuk Ahmad Marzuk “are willing to portray non-Malay and non-Muslim Malaysians as enemies in disguise who have evil agendas against Malays and Muslims.”
He added: “It is clear that PAS still carries narrow racialism and divides society. Malaysians who love our multi-ethnic nation are urged to reject this outdated politics.”
Syahredzan also challenges PAS’s political allies in Perikatan Nasional (PN), including allies in the loose concept of ‘Ikatan Prihatin Rakyat’, to state their stance on this controversial statement. “At the same time, PAS’s political allies in Perikatan Nasional, as well as their other political allies in the loose concept of ‘Ikatan Prihatin Rakyat’, are challenged to state their stance on what was voiced by this PAS leader.”
