ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN May 24, 2026 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday congratulated US President Donald Trump for convening a productive telephone call with key regional leaders aimed at advancing peace efforts in the Middle East.
In a statement posted on X, Sharif highlighted the “very useful and productive” discussions that included leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Türkiye, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and Pakistan. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir represented Pakistan in the call.
“I congratulate President Donald Trump on his extraordinary efforts to pursue peace,” Sharif wrote. He specifically commended Field Marshal Munir for his “tireless efforts during the entire process.”
Focus on Lasting Regional Stability
According to the Prime Minister, the call provided an opportunity for leaders to exchange views on the current regional situation and ways to move ongoing peace initiatives forward toward “lasting peace.”
Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the process, stating that the country would continue its peace efforts “with utmost sincerity.” He also expressed hope that Pakistan would host the next round of talks in the near future.
Pakistan’s Role in US-Brokered Diplomacy
Field Marshal Asim Munir, Pakistan’s powerful army chief who has been praised by President Trump as his “favorite field marshal,” has played a prominent role in recent mediation efforts, particularly between the US and Iran. Pakistan has leveraged its relationships to help facilitate dialogue amid tensions involving the Strait of Hormuz and broader regional stability.
The latest call follows Trump’s separate discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and comes as part of broader US-led efforts to de-escalate conflicts and promote a negotiated framework for peace in the region.
Pakistan has positioned itself as an active contributor to these initiatives, with Sharif previously nominating Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his diplomatic work.
This development underscores Pakistan’s growing diplomatic engagement in Middle Eastern affairs under the current leadership, blending military and civilian efforts to support stability.
