TRENTON/PRINCETON, N.J. March 28, 2026 — New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill delivered a fiery speech at a “No Kings” protest rally on Saturday, declaring “No kings. No thrones. No crowns” and pledging to continue battling President Donald Trump to uphold the Constitution, the rule of law, and “We the People” in the Garden State.
In a video posted to her official X account (@GovSherrillNJ), Sherrill addressed a crowd of demonstrators gathered outdoors under sunny skies, with participants holding signs reading “RESIST,” “ICE OUT FOR GOOD!,” “THE POWER OF THE PEOPLE IS STRONGER THAN THE PEOPLE IN POWER,” and “BEFORE TRUMP, LAW + ORDER WAS PRETTI GOOD.” American flags waved amid the group as Sherrill spoke from a podium.
“We are here to stand up strongly and say no kings. No Kings! NO DICTATORS!” Sherrill said in the clip, which has garnered more than 32,000 views. “We believe in the Constitution. We believe in the rule of law. We believe in the people.”
She continued: “Because all of you have come out today to stand up for your rights — to stand up for the rights of your kids, to stand up for the rights of your communities, to stand up for the rights of all the people of the United States of America. And to once more say: Not here. Not now. Not ever. NO KINGS!”
The governor concluded by thanking the attendees: “Thank you, thank you guys.”
The remarks come as part of a broader wave of “No Kings” demonstrations across the country, organized in opposition to certain Trump administration policies and what critics describe as executive overreach. Saturday’s event in New Jersey drew hundreds, with signs criticizing immigration enforcement, executive actions, and perceived threats to democratic norms.
Sherrill, a former Navy helicopter pilot and Democrat who took office as the state’s 57th governor earlier this year, has positioned herself as a leading voice of resistance to the Trump White House. Her post on X emphasized: “I’ll keep fighting the President to defend what we believe in here in New Jersey – the Constitution, the rule of law, and We the People.”
The video drew immediate backlash online from Trump supporters, with critics accusing Sherrill of hypocrisy, ignoring voter priorities in New Jersey (where Trump received roughly 46% of the 2024 vote), and focusing on national politics over state issues like taxes and affordability. Some replies labeled the event “clown town” or accused Democrats of past mandates and overreach during the Biden era.
No immediate response from the White House was available at press time.
Governor Sherrill’s office did not provide additional comment beyond the X post. The “No Kings” movement appears poised to continue, with organizers signaling further rallies in the coming weeks.
