PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA January 10, 2026 – The Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) will introduce the New Generation MyKad, equipped with more advanced security technology to ensure Malaysian citizens’ identities remain protected. This aligns with current security needs and the nation’s digital transformation agenda.
According to the official KDN statement, the upgrades include improvements to the design and the latest security technologies. These feature multi-layered digital authentication elements aimed at combating forgery and misuse of identification documents.
Citizens holding existing MyKad cards need not worry—their current cards remain valid until the expiry date. There is no requirement for immediate or hasty replacement.
In addition to the MyKad, the Malaysian passport will also undergo enhancements in security and design. Implementation will proceed in phases, involving the National Registration Department (JPN) and the Immigration Department of Malaysia.
The Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, emphasised the government’s commitment:
“The government is committed to ensuring that every official national identification document remains trusted, secure, and difficult to forge in order to protect the rights and identity of the citizens.”
This initiative serves as a proactive government step to raise the security standards of official documents amid increasingly sophisticated cybercrime and forgery threats. Further details on the implementation schedule and technical features are expected to be announced soon.
