PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia, 30 June 2025 – The Malaysian government has announced the appointment of CP Dato’ Sri Mohd Shuhaily bin Mohd Zain as the new Director-General of the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, effective 1 July 2025 for a two-year term until 30 June 2027.
The announcement was made by Tan Sri Shamsul Azri bin Abu Bakar, Chief Secretary to the Government, who extended his congratulations to the 53-year-old appointee.

Dato’ Sri Mohd Shuhaily, a graduate of the University of Islamic Studies, Malaysia, holds a Master’s in Strategic Studies from the University of Malaya and a Master’s in Public Policy from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
He brings 26 years of experience with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), including a stint as an Attaché in Washington, USA, from 2010 to 2013. His most recent role was as Director of the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department, a position he held since 15 August 2023.
Tan Sri Shamsul expressed confidence in Shuhaily’s extensive expertise across various PDRM units, both nationally and internationally, noting his ability to lead AKPS with greater dynamism.
“His leadership is expected to enhance border security and uphold integrity in service, guided by MADANI principles,” he said.
The appointment takes effect as of tomorrow, marking a new chapter for Malaysia’s border management.
