PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA February 8, 2026 – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim held productive bilateral talks on Sunday, focusing on deepening strategic cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including energy, semiconductors, digitalization, trade and investment, defense and security, agriculture, workforce mobility, tourism, connectivity, and education.
In a post on X following the meetings, Anwar Ibrahim described the discussions as taking place in a “warm, open and constructive spirit.” The two leaders first held a nearly hour-long one-on-one meeting after an official welcoming ceremony, before leading their respective delegations in wider bilateral talks.
Anwar highlighted that regional and international issues of mutual interest were also addressed. He added that the visit “not only enhances Malaysia-India friendship but opens a new chapter of closer and more meaningful cooperation for the benefit and prosperity of the peoples of both nations.”
The welcoming ceremony featured a lively cultural touch, with Prime Minister Modi enthusiastically joining traditional Malaysian kompang performers by playing the frame drum alongside them, smiling broadly as Anwar looked on. The moment captured the friendly atmosphere surrounding the high-level visit.

India and Malaysia have enjoyed strong historical ties, and the discussions signal intent to elevate the partnership to a comprehensive strategic level, building on growing economic and technological collaboration.
The visit underscores both countries’ commitment to closer engagement in an increasingly interconnected Indo-Pacific region.
