OSAKA, AUGUST 11, 2025 – Malaysia is highlighting the capabilities of its creative and digital industry ecosystem at Expo 2025 Osaka through the Digital Ministry Week, held from August 11 to 15 at the Malaysia Pavilion. This initiative, led by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), showcases the country’s strengths in animation, digital games, immersive technology, and the development of original content based on local intellectual property (IP).

Themed “Weaving a Future in Harmony,” the Digital Ministry Week was officially launched online by the Minister of Digital, YB Gobind Singh Deo. In his speech, he emphasized Malaysia’s commitment to shaping a future based on inclusive and sustainable innovation, while leveraging Expo 2025 as a strategic platform to strengthen digital collaboration between Malaysia and Japan.
The event also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Unbound and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). This collaboration encompasses digital literacy initiatives, youth development through AI and TVET training, gamified learning using AR technology, as well as research on AI policies and ethics, supported by the Securities Commission Malaysia and the Ministry of Finance.

Throughout the week, 14 local digital creative companies are showcasing their works through interactive exhibitions, including game and animation demonstrations, virtual reality (VR) experiences, mascot parades, “pocket talk” sessions, and business matching. One of the main attractions is the digital game No Straight Roads by local company Metronomik, which is now collaborating with Japan’s renowned publisher Shueisha Games to develop No Straight Roads 2. This partnership demonstrates the global potential of Malaysian creative content.

Malaysia’s participation in Expo 2025 Osaka, running from April 13 to October 13, 2025, aims to promote the country’s economic strengths, technological capabilities, and cultural identity on the international stage. Targeting RM13 billion in investments, the Malaysia Pavilion involves 21 federal ministries and approximately 70 government departments and agencies, making it a comprehensive collaborative effort to solidify Malaysia’s position as a leading digital industry hub in Asia.
The Ministry of Digital stated that this participation not only expands strategic partnerships and investment opportunities but also reinforces Malaysia’s image as a pioneer in digital transformation in Southeast Asia.
