KOTA BHARU, KELANTAN, Malaysia 9 August 2025 – After attending the Ijtima Madani this morning, Home Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail continued the work agenda with a visit to the 75-year-old Pengkalan Chepa Prison in Kelantan.

During the visit, the Minister toured various sections of the prison complex, including the inmates’ accommodation blocks, garden areas, and a batik workshop producing high-quality handmade products. While walking through the facility, the Minister took the opportunity to engage with several inmates, even spontaneously testing their Quran recitation. He was impressed to find that some inmates could recite the Quran proficiently.
However, Saifuddin highlighted that the aging prison urgently requires upgrades, as many facilities are outdated. “A prison is not just a place for punishment but also a space for self-improvement. We must provide the best opportunities for inmates to reform,” he said.
Saifuddin pledged to address the issue appropriately, emphasizing that improved facilities are essential to support rehabilitation efforts. The visit concluded with a commitment to ensuring the prison remains a relevant center for reform and building a better future.
