BUKIT JALIL, Nov 20 (Bernama) — MIMOS Berhad, the National Applied Research and Development (R&D) Centre under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first organisation in Malaysia and among the pioneers in Asia Pacific to receive the ISO 56001:2024 Innovation Management System (IMS) certification, a globally recognised standard for continual innovation excellence.
The certification was officially presented to MIMOS President and Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr Saat Shukri Embong, by YAB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, at the Majlis SIRIMIndustri 2025, held on 19 November 2025 at the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur Hotel.

Driving Innovation Excellence for Malaysia
The ISO 56001:2024 certification institutionalises an internationally benchmarked standard that endorses and validates MIMOS’ innovation processes as a governed, opportunity-driven system. It further strengthens how MIMOS identifies, evaluates, and manages opportunities across the R-D-C-I (Research–Development–Commercialisation–Impact) chain, ensuring that every idea is purposeful, every initiative is accountable, and every output contributes directly to Malaysia’s innovation priorities.
Dr Saat Shukri said, “This recognition underscores MIMOS’ commitment to operational excellence, innovation governance, and national impact. ISO 56001 sets a new benchmark for how Malaysia can systematically manage innovation, from research to real-world deployment, and demonstrates that innovation can be both disciplined and dynamic.”
“We built our MIMOS Innovation Management System (MiMS) to ensure innovation is not left to chance but driven by governance, opportunity intelligence, and measurable outcomes that strengthen Malaysia’s global competitiveness,” he added.

A National Model for Innovation Governance
The ISO 56001-certified IMS reinforces MIMOS’ role as a national reference model for innovation management in the public sector. It provides evidence-based assurance that R&D outcomes are aligned with Malaysia’s long-term development goals and deliver measurable socio-economic returns.
It also strengthens collaboration across ministries, universities, and industries by creating a common language for innovation, enabling smoother co-creation, technology transfer, and policy alignment.
Importantly, this achievement opens new pathways for cross-border innovation partnerships, particularly with organisations in Europe and Asia that have adopted the ISO 56000-series standards. By aligning with these international frameworks, MIMOS strengthens Malaysia’s position in the global innovation ecosystem and enhances the nation’s visibility as a trusted innovation collaborator.
Accelerating Innovation from Lab to Market
Through ISO 56001, MIMOS has embedded a Technology Release and Deployment Framework to accelerate the transition of research outcomes into industry-ready technologies. Each technology undergoes rigorous validation, readiness assessment, and risk evaluation, ensuring faster adoption by SMEs, government agencies, and strategic industries.
This certification positions MIMOS as a trusted national enabler that connects innovation excellence with measurable national impact, advancing Malaysia’s aspiration to become a globally competitive, innovation-driven economy.
