MCMC to Investigate Pagoh MP’s Denial of Defending Foreigners’ Rights in RON95 Subsidy Issue

CYBERJAYA, Malaysia, Aug 6, 2025 – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has announced it will launch an immediate investigation into an allegation denied by Pagoh Member of Parliament Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, following a directive from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

In a media statement today, MCMC said it has taken note of the PMO’s call for a probe related to claims that Muhyiddin defended the rights of foreigners concerning RON95 petrol subsidies, which the former prime minister has refuted.

The commission stated it will take swift and appropriate action in accordance with existing legal provisions.

MCMC also urged the public to refrain from misusing social media platforms to spread related content, warning that such actions could have implications under communications laws.

The directive stems from heightened scrutiny over subsidy policies, with the PMO emphasizing the need for clarity on the matter.<

Muhyiddin, who leads the Perikatan Nasional coalition, has denied the accusations, describing them as baseless and urging the government to focus on public welfare instead.

No further details on the investigation timeline were provided in the statement from MCMC’s Corporate Communications division.
