MALAYSIA, CYBERJAYA, 19 June 2025 – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has taken decisive action by filing a civil suit against two channels on the Telegram platform, namely “Edisi Siasat” and “Edisi Khas”. These channels are known to have disseminated content that violates provisions under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which governs the protection of public institutions and societal well-being.

This action marks a significant step, being the first of its kind taken against a social media platform provider, particularly a Telegram operator, to address the widespread dissemination of detrimental content. The suit demands compliance with the MCMC’s instructions and seeks to uphold the integrity of the nation’s legal and regulatory framework.
Following thorough investigations, MCMC has requested and obtained an interim injunction from the High Court as a final measure to prevent the spread of the aforementioned detrimental content and to ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. This legal action aims to safeguard the sovereignty and enforcement of established laws and regulations.
Telegram is urged to cooperate fully with the court’s orders and comply with MCMC’s directives.
