CYBERJAYA, MALAYSIA January 6, 2026 — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) conducted a major enforcement operation, code-named Op Optik, seizing 10,112 units of uncertified communication equipment estimated at RM1 million from premises in Klang and Petaling Jaya.
The 19-hour operation, which ran from noon until 4 a.m., targeted a company suspected of selling devices that failed to meet mandatory technical standards. Acting on intelligence shared with SIRIM, 69 MCMC officers raided a warehouse in Klang and the company’s office in Petaling Jaya.
Seized items included wireless closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, computers, printers, mobile phones, and WiFi routers. Authorities found the company was actively marketing and selling the uncertified equipment through e-commerce platforms and social media.
Forty individuals were questioned on-site, while nine key personnel — including company directors, operations managers, warehouse staff, live-stream hosts, and content creators — received formal notices to attend statement recordings at MCMC headquarters in Cyberjaya.
MCMC highlighted serious risks posed by uncertified devices, including potential harm to consumer safety, network interference, reduced service quality, and damage to the integrity of the local market.
The case is being investigated under Regulation 16 of the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000, which provides for a maximum penalty of RM300,000 fine, imprisonment for up to three years, or both.
The commission stated that enforcement actions will continue and be intensified to prevent the sale of non-compliant communication equipment and protect consumers.
Photos released by MCMC show officers inventorying boxes of seized equipment in the Klang warehouse and conducting searches at the Petaling Jaya office.
