CYBERJAYA, Malaysia, September 3, 2025 – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has launched an investigation into a false social media post containing racial elements, allegedly shared by Manjoi state assemblyman Mohd Hafez Sabri. The post falsely claimed that a Chinese woman climbed the main stage during Perak’s recent National Day celebrations in Ipoh.

According to MCMC, the post inaccurately identified the woman’s ethnicity, which has been debunked by the director of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department. Authorities warn that such misinformation could incite racial tensions and foster negative perceptions among the public.
Sabri’s statement was recorded on Tuesday, September 2, at Bukit Aman police headquarters, in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). The probe is being conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), which carries a maximum fine of RM500,000, up to two years in prison, or both upon conviction.
MCMC emphasized that spreading racially charged fake content is a serious offense that threatens public harmony and order. The public is urged to verify information before posting or sharing on social media platforms.
