CYBEJAYA, MALAYSIA January 20, 2026 – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has launched an investigation into online content published by China Press, following public complaints alleging the material contained false elements related to the decree of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, during yesterday’s Parliament opening ceremony.
According to an official media statement released by MCMC today, the commission received formal complaints from members of the public regarding the contentious publication. In response, MCMC has opened an investigation file and is conducting probes under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. This provision addresses the improper use of network facilities or communication services that may lead to public confusion and disrupt societal harmony.
Representatives from China Press were summoned to MCMC’s headquarters this afternoon to provide recorded statements as part of the ongoing inquiry.
MCMC emphasized the importance of using official channels for reporting concerns, urging the public to submit complaints or relevant information via the commission’s complaint portal at aduan.mcmc.gov.my. This allows for appropriate actions based on verified facts and proper procedures.
The commission also advised against speculation, extreme comments, or defamatory statements, particularly on social media platforms, to avoid interfering with the investigation process.
