LAHAD DATU,SABAH, Malaysia 6 September 2025 – Communications Minister, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, alongside the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), conducted an inspection and network quality test at Kampung Sepagaya, Lahad Datu, Sabah today. The visit assessed the performance and readiness of telecommunications providers (telcos) ahead of the Northeast Monsoon.

Joint tests with CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, TM Tech, and YTL, using the MCMC NEXUS app, showed communication towers in the area achieving speeds of up to 300Mbps on 5G and 80Mbps on 4G, benefiting approximately 3,800 local residents.
As of 31 July 2025, internet coverage in populated areas of Sabah has reached 95.30%, a significant improvement from 73.41% before the National Digital Network (JENDELA) project. To ensure stable communication during the flood season, telcos are required to boost network capacity and provide backup power, including generators and solar-hybrid systems, given Kampung Sepagaya’s flood risk during the monsoon.
Additionally, two nearby National Information Distribution Centres (NADI) – NADI Kampung Sepagaya and NADI Layung Industrial – have been set up to support the community with various digital services, aligning with the MADANI government’s goals to enhance digital access, drive socioeconomic development, and strengthen national digitization.
Also present were the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Communications, Dato’ Seri Mohamad Fauzi bin Md Isa, and MCMC Chief Executive Officer, Abdul Karim Fakir Ali.
