Mandatory Speed Limiter Policy a Timely Step for Road Safety, Says Syahredzan

BANGI, June 10, 2025 — The nation mourns the tragic loss of 15 UPSI students in a bus accident yesterday, a grim reminder of the urgent need to strengthen road safety measures, said Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan.

In a statement today, Syahredzan expressed full support for the Transport Ministry’s announcement to mandate speed limiters for heavy vehicles. Transport Minister Anthony Loke revealed yesterday that the policy is being carefully crafted to prevent manipulation and ensure effective enforcement.

“This is a crucial step toward safer roads. Discussions on speed limiters have been ongoing for a decade, and the government’s commitment to making this mandatory reflects the MADANI administration’s resolve to protect road users,” Syahredzan said.

He urged companies operating heavy vehicles, including buses and lorries, to back the initiative and work with authorities to ensure its success. Syahredzan also called for stricter enforcement of existing traffic laws and increased public awareness campaigns to promote compliance.

“While we cannot bring back the 15 young lives lost, decisive policies and actions can prevent such tragedies from recurring,” he added.

The MP’s statement comes as authorities intensify efforts to address road safety following yesterday’s devastating accident.
