PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA March 28, 2026 – Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim wrapped up a brief working visit to Jakarta on Friday, 27 March 2026, where he held substantive bilateral discussions with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on the escalating conflict in West Asia and its far-reaching implications for regional stability and the global economy.
In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Anwar detailed the high-level engagement, which was held at the invitation of President Prabowo following an earlier telephone conversation.
He emphasised that the meeting would be fully utilised to address the intensifying West Asia conflict and its effects on both nations.
Following the closed-door meeting, Anwar described the discussions as “penuh makna” (full of meaning) and constructive. Both leaders agreed on the urgent need to strengthen principled regional solidarity to safeguard security, economic stability, and resilience for the benefit of their peoples.
Key outcomes included a shared commitment to intensify diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating the conflict, protecting civilian lives, and creating space for peaceful, lasting negotiations. The leaders also stressed the importance of ensuring uninterrupted global supply chains and strategic trade routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, which remains critical for energy security.
Anwar further noted that he had updated President Prabowo on his recent interactions with international leaders, aimed at expressing solidarity, aligning positions, and assessing the global impact—especially on energy and regional security.
“Malaysia kekal dengan pendirian tegas, menolak keganasan, menjunjung undang-undang antarabangsa dan menggesa semua pihak kembali kepada jalan damai,” he affirmed, underscoring Malaysia’s unwavering stance against violence and in support of international law.
Photos released by the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat captured the warm and cordial atmosphere of the meeting at Merdeka Palace.
In his final post before departing Jakarta, Prime Minister Anwar expressed satisfaction with the visit’s outcomes: “Mengakhiri kunjungan singkat ke Republik Indonesia. Dalam mendepani ketidaktentuan global saat ini, kesepakatan Malaysia dan Indonesia menjadi semakin penting, dengan kedua-dua negara sepakat untuk terus berganding bahu, memperkukuh kerjasama strategik serta memperhebat ikhtiar diplomasi demi memastikan kestabilan serantau dan kesejahteraan rakyat.”
He reiterated the importance of deepening fraternal ties between the two neighbouring countries under the #MalaysiaMADANI, #DiplomasiMADANI, and #YakinMADANI framework.
The visit highlights the close bilateral relationship between Malaysia and Indonesia, two nations often described as “serumpun” (of the same stock), as they navigate shared challenges amid global uncertainties.
Prime Minister Anwar returned to Malaysia on the same day, having successfully advanced diplomatic cooperation on pressing international issues.
