Malaysian PM Receives Timor-Leste’s Highest Civilian Honour, Calls for ASEAN Unity

DILI, TIMOR-LESTE, Sept 24, 2025– Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim was conferred the prestigious Grand Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste, the nation’s highest civilian award, by President Dr. José Ramos-Horta on [date]. In a keynote address at the Presidential Lecture series, Anwar emphasised the critical need for ASEAN member states to reinforce unity and centrality to navigate intensifying geopolitical rivalries and complex regional challenges. Reflecting on ASEAN’s nearly six-decade journey, he noted that its resilience through turbulent times underscores the importance of collective strength.

“ASEAN’s unity must be consistently upheld. Division will only undermine our shared efforts to build a peaceful and prosperous region,” Anwar declared.

The Malaysian leader’s visit highlights the deepening partnership between Malaysia and Timor-Leste, as well as Malaysia’s pivotal role in fostering regional stability through ASEAN.
