Malaysian PM Condemns Sudan Crisis, Warns of Potential Genocide in Darfur

PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA Nov 3, 2025 – Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim issued a stark warning on Sunday over the escalating humanitarian disaster in Sudan’s Darfur region, particularly in the besieged city of El Fasher, describing it as a “catastrophe” involving mass killings, widespread starvation, and massive displacement that “shocks the conscience.”

In a strongly worded statement, Anwar highlighted mounting reports of atrocities that could constitute crimes against humanity or even genocide, labeling them “intolerable” amid ongoing clashes between rival forces.

Malaysia has demanded an immediate halt to the violence and full adherence to international humanitarian law to safeguard civilians caught in the crossfire. The Southeast Asian nation expressed unwavering solidarity with the Sudanese people and called on the global community to intervene urgently—restoring access for aid workers, averting further loss of life, and backing a transparent pathway to sustainable peace and justice for the perpetrators.

The remarks come as the United Nations and human rights groups report over 10,000 deaths and the displacement of more than 2 million people in Darfur this year alone, with El Fasher at risk of becoming the latest flashpoint in Sudan’s protracted civil war. Anwar’s intervention underscores Malaysia’s growing role in advocating for conflict resolution on the world stage, following its recent pushes for ceasefires in Gaza and Ukraine.
