PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA April 8, 2026 – Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim has warmly welcomed Iran’s 10-point peace proposal in the ongoing US-Iran conflict, describing it as a significant step toward restoring peace and stability in the Middle East and beyond.
In a statement posted on X today, PM Anwar said he “wholeheartedly” supports the latest diplomatic breakthrough, noting that Iran’s plan has been positively received by the United States.
“I wholeheartedly welcome the latest development in the current US-Iran war, in respect of the ten-point plan as proposed by Iran and positively received by the US,” he wrote.
The Prime Minister stressed that the proposal offers hope for a lasting resolution. He urged both sides to negotiate in good faith, warning that “peace talks cannot succeed if the proceedings are cloaked in deception and double-dealing.”
Anwar called for the 10-point plan to be expanded into a comprehensive peace deal that covers not only Iran but also Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen. He further demanded an immediate end to “the genocide and dispossession of the people of Palestine, not least in Gaza.”
The Malaysian leader also extended “sincere congratulations and deep appreciation” to Pakistan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for their tireless mediation efforts that helped bring about this moment.
“Pakistan’s willingness to speak to all sides, without fear or favour, reflects the highest traditions of Muslim solidarity and international responsibility,” Anwar said. “Malaysia stands ready to support and complement all efforts in this regard.”
He appealed to the international community to ensure unimpeded humanitarian access to all civilian populations affected by the war and concluded: “Let this be a turning point towards lasting peace. The world cannot afford for it to be anything less.”
The statement comes hours after Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the US, Iran and their allies had agreed to an immediate ceasefire “everywhere, including Lebanon,” following intense Pakistani-led diplomacy. The truce is understood to pave the way for formal talks in Islamabad starting Friday.
Iran’s 10-point proposal, delivered through Pakistan, calls for a permanent end to hostilities, lifting of sanctions, security guarantees, regulated reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and reconstruction support. It was presented as a counter to an earlier US 15-point framework.
PM Anwar’s endorsement underscores Malaysia’s long-standing position as a voice for peace and justice in the Muslim world, particularly on the Palestinian issue.
Malaysia remains committed to supporting all genuine efforts that promote regional stability and protect civilian lives.
